1999 SAW DOCTOR TRAINING SCHOOLS
Skilled saw doctors who provide training at formal schools are a valuable resource to our industry. Some of those schools are listed below. Schools and others offering formal instruction in saw maintenance practices and techniques for sawmills are invited to contact Armstrong with information about their program. Filing Instructor John Kirchner is the past president of the Cal-Western Saw Filers’ Educational Association. He instructs beginning and intermediate level saw filers on both band and circular saws in intensive weeklong programs. Students practice on saws from their own sawmills, making the sessions very productive and enhancing skill retention.

Saw Doctor Instructors
The certificate program is modular in structure with each module focusing on a particular subject, such as band wheel grinding or maintaining wide band saws. Some classes are designed for students beginning in the industry while other sessions are for those currently employed who want to add to their skills.

This is the only school in Western Canada, serving approximately 150 students per year in a four-year apprenticeship. The shop includes equipment for sharpening, benching and machine maintenance and alignment. Upon successful completion of the course, a Certificate of Trade Qualification is issued.
