ARMSTRONG'S VERTICAL
CIRCLE SAW LEVELER SUCCESS

Five Armstrong circle saw Levelers were installed in sawmills in December and January. These are big, sophisticated machines designed to precisely level up to 12 saws per hour. After two years of development and three prototypes, maybe we should not have been surprised that these start-ups were absolutely trouble-free. They are ready to run. Call Armstrong for a "test drive".

Mill Manager/Filing Room Supervisor Ivan Allday reports "This Leveler is unreal. It’s making our old saws better and better. Now we put brand new saws through our Armstrong Leveler because they come out much flatter than the factory makes them." Machine operators are round saw filers Scott Thorpe (left) and Randall Jones.

Manager Charlie Moyer says head filer Ralph Hafer (left) and round saw filer Russ Owsley (right) were so pleased with their Leveler that Britt hosted an ‘open house’ to show local filers and mill managers what a ‘really good automatic round saw leveler’ can do.

Day-shift round saw filer Delbert Cochrane and head filer Larry Hager report the automatic Leveler has helped them reduce their within board deviation by 50% at the gang. Larry says, "Our saws are in better condition now, so there are fewer unscheduled saw changes. I’ve run the first models of many saw filing machines for several manufacturers. I have never seen a new machine as trouble-free as the Armstrong circle saw Leveler."

Head Filer Kenny Brown worked closely with Armstrong’s filers and engineers to test earlier prototypes. Kenny told us where to improve those first machines. Now he just grins and says "I’m keeping this one."

Saw & Knife Coordinator Keith Widdifield uses the touch screen to set-up the Armstrong Leveler in their high tech filing room. "We tried two other circle levelers that couldn’t meet our needs, so we will run a thorough test" says Keith. "We’re putting 45 saws a day across the Leveler. There just haven’t been any problems with this Armstrong machine so far."
