Rebuilding Armstrong Equipment

No. 2, 4 and 6 Band Saw Sharpeners

Armstrong band saw sharpeners can usually be restored to "like new" operating condition for a fraction of the price of replacing these machines.

Sharpeners that have been made since 1973 (Serial Nos. 9500 and higher) are the best candidates for rebuilding. These machines have all steel frames. Band saw sharpeners made between 1953 and 1973 (Serial Nos. between 3600 and 9500) can also usually be restored to fine operating condition.

The original rocker arms, made from a single cast iron piece, should be replaced after 6,000 to 10,000 hours of operation (usually 10 to 15 years of moderate usage -- about 2 to 3 hours per day). The current, heavy duty rockers with replaceable "feet" will usually last 50% longer before replacements are needed.

No. 4, 5 and 6 stretcher rolls

A rebuild kit (P/N 6889-C1) includes all the interior components usually required to rebuild a No. 4, 5 or 6 Armstrong movable band saw stretcher roll. The kit comes complete with installation instructions.

Note: P/N 6889-C1 does include a pair of 1864-H tensioning rolls. The top roll is not driven on all new stretcher rolls. If a top driven roll is preferred, the following additional items should be ordered with the rebuild kit:
